What do you think about 5Street?
5Street is a free-to-play dancing MMO boasting a wide range of songs and an attractive social aspect that allows players to dance alone or with each other, competitively or cooperatively. Players can participate in one-on-one dance battles or team up with others. While dancing, players must strike certain keys to progress through the dancing sequence to unlock more advanced moves and combos. The dance halls in 5Street feature selections of music based on top music charts from around the world and feedback from players. The game was developed by Snail Games has a large fan base in China and a growing presence in the U.S. and Europe.
The customization aspect is a major draw of the game, as players can don thousands of different outfits available in the in-game stores. However, certain outfits cost real money—rather than in-game currency. Players can also attain various, unique in-game pets. Additionally, every 5Street player own a virtual home for storing extra items. Unfortunately, these homes offer little in the way of customization.
The game is visually appealing, boasting decent graphics and realistic dance moves. However, the social aspect of the game is what sets it apart from otherwise similar dancing MMOs. Players’ interactive options do not stop at dancing. For example, they can communicate with each other via emotes ranging from punching to kissing. 5Street also features a romantic element that allows players to participate in couples dancing and even marriage. Additionally, players can video-chat with each other in the designated video-chat dance halls.
5Street keeps players coming back by offering quests and achievements, and publicly-displayed leaderboards featuring the highest-ranking players. While the amount of songs available is nothing special compared to other online rhythm games like Audition Online, the ample opportunity for avatar customization and social element makes 5Street a unique, entertaining dancing MMO.
