Allods Online

Allods Online is a free-to-play, fantasy MMORPG that follows more traditional “World of Warcraft-like” MMO traditions, developed by The Allods Team and currently published by Mail.ru.

Players create a new character by choosing from 1 of 2 factions (The League or The Empire) and from 1 of 8 typical class archetypes. Players level their characters through questing, dungeons, and PvP and choose upgrades in a typical skill tree along the way. Combat is “hotbar” based and uses tab targeting, but Allods Online does offer a more unique ship based combat while searching the game’s large world area called “The Astral.”

Players can build and customize their own ships and use them to access zones that are restricted from accessing any other way. Player versus Player ship combat is also possible. On foot, open world PvP is available provided you are flagged for PvP and you’ve reached at least level 21 and larger scale PvP becomes available at level 60.

PvE players can expect questing (side and story quests), dungeon runs, raids and other typical MMORPG content. Along the way to max level, players will learn skills, take place in the game’s market, learn to use mounts for faster transportation, and unlock other character gains. Players can also take on pets and customize them.

On the payment side of things, Allods Online has gone through its own trials over the years. A few missteps with high cash shop prices, a brutally penalizing death mechanic, and a few items of questionable offering all led to a rather large player base backlash. These items have since been changed or removed entirely but the “stigma” still remains in some ways.

Allods is free-to-play but offers a separate subscription based server that is entirely devoid of cash shop influences should players prefer that type of experience.
